FAQs

Is STEM Futures right for my child?
How will my child benefit from using STEM Futures?

Through a combination of live interactive lessons and expert teaching we can help your child overcome any classroom limitations and anxieties. This may include issues such as: being taught by a non-specialist teacher; being part of a large or disruptive class; or, experiencing gaps in subject knowledge.

On the Standard tier, your child will also gain access to a group forum. This will help to foster a sense of belonging within a community of students who share similar academic aspirations and values.

Access to a personal tutor and 1-2-1 sessions on the Premium tier will also boost their confidence and ultimately benefit their progress overall.

Are your courses suitable for children with Special Educational Needs?

Absolutely. We have all taught students across a wide spectrum and have had extensive SEN training in a school setting.

What happens if my child cannot make all 3 of the weekly sessions?

We fully appreciate that life can get busy! All lessons are recorded and accessible here so they can catch up in their own time. Please be assured that student anonymity is maintained in all recordings.

How many students attend your classes?

Our lessons largely assume a lecture-style format and will always feature interactive elements. Your child will also have the opportunity to ask the tutor questions during the live sessions. Therefore, the quality of teaching that your child receives will not be impacted by the number of students in attendance. On the Standard tier they will also have access to a tutor via the group forum. Additionally, the Premium tier includes personal access to a tutor and weekly 30 minute 1-1 sessions.

What ages are your courses suitable for?

The courses are predominantly aimed at students studying GCSEs and A Levels. However, if your child falls outside of these typical years and you feel that they would benefit from learning with us, then please email info@stemfutures.co.uk so we can advise you.

My subscription – how does it work?
How do the teachers monitor student progress?

Assessments will be set on the Standard and Premium tiers and the model solutions will be given at the start of the next session. With the Premium tier, students will have the opportunity to attend regular weekly (30 min) 1-1 feedback sessions. Here, we will discuss the recently sat mock exam and ways in which they can improve.

£250 for your Premium tier costs more than what a private tutor would charge for. Why should I pay the extra?’

Whilst that is true, no private tutor would be able to mark and give quality feedback on a monthly mock exam (this is on top of the 12 live lessons). The repetition of doing exam practice is by far and away the best preparation for the real thing. Your child also gets weekly 30 min 1-1 sessions where we can really drill down into the recently sat mock exam, and work together to sort through any questions or concerns that they may have.

Why should I pay for this rather than just use Sparx Maths which is free from my child’s school?

Sparx is a great piece of software, but it does not provide anywhere near the benefits that we can. Click here to see what our different tiers offer.

Can I change my subscription plan during the year?

Yes, just click on the ‘change my subscription’ button located on the parent portal.

Can I pause my subscription?

Yes, and you will be able to access all of the recorded lessons and resources until the end of the month in which you pause.

General
My child is not in full time education – can you enter them for exams?

We can point you in the right direction, but exams will need to be sat at a local centre (this is standard practice for any online school).

Do you offer any other subjects?

Click here for our current full subject offering. Watch this space for more courses and subject offerings in the future.

Do you offer 1-1 private tuition?

If you have signed up to the Premium tier then your child will have weekly 1-1 sessions (30 mins) to go through the recently sat mock style exam. We believe that the blend of interactive live lessons and focused 1-1 work on the mock is the best way to learn and truly understand the course material.

Can I speak to a human being if i have any other questions?

Yes, you can contact Amy – our Customer Liaison Manager - at amy@stemfutures.co.uk and she will aim to respond within 24 hours (although the impending birth of her 2nd child may delay this ever so slightly!)

Are your tutors fully qualified teachers?

Yes – we are expert teachers with over 50 years’ classroom experience between us! We are all currently working within schools meaning that we are fully up-to-date and experienced with the current education system. Click here to view our teacher bios.
